Introduction

          Sri Akilandeswari Women’s College is a Self-financing institution established on 21-07-1995 (G.O.Ms.No.586) and is affiliated to the Thiruvalluvar University, Vellore. The College is located in the rural Wandiwash in an area of 14.865 acres. The institution started with 4 graduate courses with 35 students and at present there are 11 UG courses and 7 PG courses with the strength of 1250 students.
The distance from Chennai to our College is 130kms. There are so many towns around our College like Cheyyar, Kanchipuram,   Madurandagam, Acharappakkam, Tindivanam, Desur, Devigapuram, Chetpet , Polur and Arni.

Criterion I: Curricular aspects:

          The College was started with the objective for the upliftment of rural girls from poverty and ignorance through higher education. This is the first self-financing College started for Women in the Thiruvannamalai district and most of the students here are  the first generation degree holders. The aim of the institution is to cater to the needs of educationally disadvantaged rural girls of the district by offering various degree programmes. The College ensures equal opportunities for all the students in terms of education, training and employment. Apart from academic programmes, certificate courses like Computer Applications, Spoken English, Fashion Designing,    K.G Teacher Training and Banking Technology are also offered.  Short term IT Courses which provides 100% of placement is also available.

The programmes are flexible enough to match the convenience of the students in terms of time as majority of the students are from remote villages. The management operates buses to various destinations for the convenience of the students to various place were Cheyyar, Kancheepuram, Madurandagam, Acharapakkam, Endiyur, Tindivanam, Desur, Devigapuram, Chetpet, and Periyakozhappalur as there are no adequate transport facilities for the same. This has contributed to the growth of student strength.
